A Briarwood woman was assaulted and robbed as she pulled into her garage, NBC5 reported last night. But it was already circulating social media in Greenway Parks as news spread among concerned neighbors of this assault.

According to personal neighbor reports, a single woman came home to her Elsby Avenue residence at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 when she was confronted by four unknown assailants in her garage. Reportedly, she was violently assaulted as the four men ransacked her home for valuables in a safe.

A Dallas Police Department incident dashboard shows that officers responded to this call on Elsby Avenue for aggravated robbery of an individual. NBC5 confirmed with Dallas Police that officers responded to a call about 10:10 p.m. in the 4800 block of Elsby Ave., and said that based upon preliminary investigation, four unknown people had robbed and assaulted a woman. No medical transport was needed, and the investigation is ongoing. No arrests have been made.

Neighbors on social media gave further concerning details of the woman’s attack and descriptions of her attackers, but those reports could not be independently verified.

The Briarwood neighborhood street, north of Lovers Lane and a couple blocks west of Inwood Road, shows no other recent violent crime, according to a LexisNexis Community Crime Map. The area is known as Rector Place Addition II, in an area that is bordered to the north by the multimillion-dollar estates of Bluffview.

Neighbors, of course, are now on edge. This neighborhood has a privately-supported Expanded Neighborhood Patrol and an officer for the area that is working with DPD.

Neighbors told NBC:

“There’s always cops patrolling especially down this one street over here that’s a little more isolated, so again I never really felt unsafe so the whole thing is shocking,” said Jessika Green who has lived in the neighborhood for two years. “Generally we’ve been really happy. We moved from downtown near the Farmer’s Market so we felt like this was much safer.”

Now, many are concerned. Home prices in Briarwood have increased considerably over the last several years as it became a sought-after area for tear-downs. Buyers love the leafy lots, and walkable proximity to the many stores and restaurants on Lovers Lane. The area is also home to several schools, including Providence Christian Academy, The Carlisle School, Sudie L. Williams TAG Academy, as well as several yoga and ballet studios.

This new build nearby is typical of the appealing new homes the area is attracting: it lists for $2.3 million.
