Position Summary: Rice Business, the business school at Rice University, is seeking a creative copywriter to produce engaging communications to promote our programs and increase visibility of the school. This position would report to the Editor of Rice Business Publications/Director of Communications and would be responsible for writing copy for advertising campaigns, marketing materials, web copy and blog posts with knowledge of search engine optimization (SEO) best practices. The copywriter will also support other team members in brainstorming, drafting, proofing and fact-checking social copy and internal communications efforts, as well as articles in Rice Business magazine and Rice Business Wisdom. This is a hybrid position for the next two years as Rice Business undergoes a building project with expectations of flexible on-site work beginning in 2026.

Workplace Requirements: Beginning Summer 2024 Rice Business will undergo a building project with expectations of flexible on-site work through 2026. This position is offered as a hybrid role, combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration.
Per Rice policy 440, "work arrangements may be subject to change."
Hiring Range: $60,000 commensurate with experience
*Exempt (salaried) positions under FLSA are not eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in marketing, communications, English, journalism or a related field.
- In lieu of a bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, English, or journalism, professional writing experience in any field on a year-for-year basis may be substituted
- Two (2) years of professional experience in communications and/or marketing
Skills - Advanced knowledge of multiple media fronts
- Advanced knowledge of AP style
- Advanced listening skills
- Advanced Microsoft skills
Preferences: - Experience contributing to a brand or advertising campaign or initiative
- Experience writing for marketing, in particular, creating copy for marketing collateral, brochures, websites and social media
- Experience working with clients and managing customer relationships
Essential Functions: - Researches, conceptualizes and writes copy for marketing and public relations projects
- Implements SEO tactics to enhance visibility and ranking on search engines
- Provides guidance to clients in the identification and development of communications plans across various communication channels
- Produces copy for brochures, advertisements, social posts, blogs, articles and other marketing collateral, including newsletters and web pages
- Edits copy for accuracy, effectiveness and style
- Writes and edits marketing and promotional copy and communications on behalf of university leaders
- Performs all other duties assigned
