Job Summary

The Operator Supervisor oversees and directs the daily operations of the Switchboard. Primary duties include staff guidance, procedure review, and overall operator efficiency. Emphasis is on customer care, quality, and training. Supports the hospital by operating the switchboard and other related duties as assigned.

Frye Regional Medical Center, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina is a 355-bed acute care hospital, 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.

Essential Functions

  • Provides leadership to team members by sharing knowledge, training, and suggesting improvements.
  • Manage team performance, provide mentoring, and feedback, and consult on yearly performance evaluations.
  • Deals with problem situations in a professional manner and adequately communicates pertinent information.
  • Responsible for staff scheduling to include interacting with staff to ensure switchboard is covered during scheduled hours.
  • Oversight for external paging system to include adding, modifying, and replacing pagers.
  • Operate telephone switchboards and consoles to connect, hold, transfer, and disconnect telephone calls.
  • Create/Run reports as needed.• Maintain and review operator guides and keep procedures up to date.
  • Manage Answering Service agreements and oversee on-call schedule process.
  • Oversee transfer center procedures!
  • Oversee mail room operations.

Minimum Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Minimum Work Experience

3 years as a hospital operator. 1-year related supervising/team lead required. 5 years of customer service. Knowledge of telephone equipment and relevant computer programs. Excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Strong organizational and leadership skills. Ability to work under pressure.
