Required Attachment(s) The Nevada System of Higher Education, System Administration, Las Vegas Chancellor's Office is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student worker to join our Public Information Office. This part-time position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in public relations, communications, and higher education administration. The student worker will assist the Public Information Officer in a variety of tasks, including writing, research, event planning, and administrative support.
Key Responsibilities: The student worker will assist in drafting press releases, news stories, and other communications materials. They will conduct research to support media outreach and public relations efforts, help maintain and update the NSHE website and social media channels, create engaging content for social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and monitor social media channels for engagement, responding to inquiries and comments. Additional responsibilities include assisting in organizing and promoting events and press conferences, monitoring media coverage and compiling press clippings, providing administrative support such as answering phones, managing schedules, and organizing files, and supporting special projects and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications: To qualify for this position, the applicant must be currently enrolled as a student at an NSHE institution, have a minimum GPA of 2.0, and be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester. The candidate should have strong writing and communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and familiarity with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). They should be able to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines, be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, and have prior experience in communications, public relations, or a related field is a plus, but not required.
Preferred Skills: Preferred skills include knowledge of AP Style or other journalistic writing standards, experience with content management systems (CMS) and website maintenance, basic graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), and a strong understanding of social media trends and best practices.
$14.00/hr. starting
Hours per week will be granted based on the student's schedule and department's needs. Working during summer and winter break is necessary.
