The Medical Interpreter coordinates and delivers both verbal and written language interpretation for patient, families, and caregivers. This position will work Mondays from 8:00-12:00, and Saturdays & Sundays from 8:30-17:00, with schedule changes possible depending on volumes. Responsibilities include providing complete and accurate interpretation in-person, over video or telephone; using communication methods appropriate for patient developmental age and mental condition; assisting with sight translation of forms; demonstrating cultural sensitivity and unbiased interpretation; adhering to professional ethics and standards including Intermountain Policies, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, ADA, ACA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission requirements; managing time productively and responding timely to requests; coordinating interpretation assignments and keeping accurate records; using computer and internet tools for research and communication; and possibly providing translation services. Minimum qualifications include successful completion of a pre-hire skills assessment and a 40-hour Professional Medical Interpreting Course or equivalent qualifications, excellent oral and written command of both languages, ability to perform consecutive, simultaneous, and sight translation accurately, proficiency in medical terminology, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree, national or Utah certification as a Medical Interpreter, experience as a professional medical interpreter, and completion of a medical terminology course.
