Job Description
The McLean Facilities, Planning, and Construction department is searching for a Space Planning Manager who enjoys the challenges of planning and coordinating renovations for a historically significant campus and has demonstrated experience leading efforts to optimize space use as well as improve building infrastructure in support of strategic goals and campus renewal plans.
The Space Planning Manager evaluates space, project, and furniture requests; uses iterative problem-solving skills to collaborate with others; and supports projects from initial feasibility studies through completion.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Programming, Space Planning, and Data Management - Tracks space planning and furniture requests to ensure proposed projects contribute to McLean's broad strategic goals and optimize opportunities to incorporate recommendations from the Facilities Condition Assessment study.
- Responsible for program development; test fit efforts; application of space allocation metrics; preliminary cost estimates; identification of initial code and compliance requirements; schedule or enabling constraints; and campus impact.Confers with key stakeholders and knows when to consult with professional engineers and contractors regarding proposed projects.
- Facilitates the transition of projects from planning stages to Capital Construction team. Works in parallel with the Capital Construction Project Manager to provide design review and critiques.Guides project teams on room numbering and reviews relevant close-out documentation.
- Supports equipment/furniture planning, move planning, finish selection, and other services that may be needed for the successful implementation of capital projects.
Successful communications and accurate documentation - Answers inquiries pertaining to space utilization, code issues, square footages, cost estimates, and finishes.
- Maintains up-to-date space plans and space management tools to provide an inventory of all McLean spaces.Reports out information via Archibus to MGB Real Estate division at regular intervals.
- Prepares schematic design and relevant documentation for small to medium scale in-house renovation projects.
- Authors and evaluates RFPs and RFQs as necessary to engage top quality consultants.
Creates new standards for campus excellence - Leads the effort to develop and implement standard specifications for finishes, lighting, and furniture across campus and at off-site locations.
- Evaluates requests for furniture and equipment. Identifies, procures, and manages the installation of office equipment, furniture, and building products, as required and within established standards.
- Plans a series of scheduled FF&E replacements; forecasts anticipated annual capital spend.
- Manages McLean climate action initiatives related to decarbonization, resiliency, and other sustainability programs in coordination with enterprise-wide requirements.
Other Responsibilities - Seeks new ways to gather data efficiently.Deploys data in support of project goals.
- Works with Facilities team to develop the annual capital budget for all proposed capital improvements.
- Stays current with trends, modern technologies, and grant opportunities related to facilities management and sustainability.
- Performs all other duties and assignments as requested.

Qualifications Qualifications - B.S. in Engineering or Architecture; master's degree preferred.
- Current state registration as an Architect or equivalent experience.
- Valid Driver's license
- Minimum (8) years or progressively more responsible work experience necessary with the ability to demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of programming, architectural design, building construction, cost estimating, and administration of professional services.
- Experience with the following space types: behavioral health in-patient units; residential patient settings; clinical offices; wet- and dry- laboratory space; as well as administrative support and campus amenity areas.
Skills, Abilities, and Competencies Required - Digital fluency is required in the following applications: Autodesk products, Microsoft Office Suite, and Adobe Acrobat. Experience with data analytic tools and facilities management systems preferred.
- Knowledge of building systems, construction best practices, local building codes, accessibility guidelines, person of size guidelines, and related regulations. Understanding of zoning and municipality ordinances a plus.
- Strong analytical skills to objectively evaluate data, proposals, and project ideas, coupled with the ability to synthesize this information into successful graphics, reports, and presentations in multiple formats to aid decision making.
- Must be detail-oriented and appreciate the intricacies of working with historically significant buildings.
- Top notch verbal, written, and problem-solving skills.Approaches requests with a "can do" attitude.
- Ability to easily interact with others; know how to "read the room".
- Takes initiative, works independently and follows solutions through to completion.
