Job Description: Senior Accountant

This position will play an integral role in evaluating, on a continual basis the company’s work in progress schedule and project gain and fade analysis. As such, the ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of percent complete accounting, enabling them to hit the ground running! Other duties will include assisting the home office accounting staff with multiple tasks to accomplish the accurate and timely monthly closing of the general ledger. This person also needs to be able to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and juggle shifting priorities.
Responsibilities:
Understanding work in progress schedules and being proficient in percent complete accounting, especially as it pertains to revenue recognition and projecting and predicting final profit margin on construction projects.
Assisting remote accounting staff in accomplishment of accounting tasks related to cost, financial reporting, and general ledger maintenance, especially pertaining to month-end closing of the general ledger.
Tracking and analyzing yearly capital expenditure budget and calculating and posting depreciation for a large fleet including light vehicles to heavy equipment.
Calculating fuel usage and posting usage to equipment in the company’s fleet.
Work closely with aggregate division personnel to calculate and post/pay depletion and royalties on materials from intracompany locations.
Analyze financial data and provide insights to management on trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
Contribute to the budgeting and forecasting process, working closely with management to develop and monitor financial plans and performance metrics.
Ensure compliance with company-specific internal controls, accounting standards, regulations, and including SOX requirements.
Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process and address any audit findings or recommendations.
Evaluate and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial operations.
Assist in strategic financial planning initiatives, including mergers and acquisitions, capital investments, and risk management.
Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices in accounting and finance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, preferably in a manufacturing or construction-related industry with strong concentration in percent complete accounting.
Cost Accounting and/or Management Accounting experience is required
Strong technical accounting skills and proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Advanced knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
Excellent organizational and time-management abilities, with the capacity to prioritize tasks effectively.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in the construction industry is highly desired.
