Overview:

CFRs David Rockefeller Studies Program is one of the countrys largest foreign policy think tanks with a widely respected and influential research staff. The Studies Program aims to advance the discussion of American foreign policy and international affairs through its writing, publications, public outreach, and discussions.

The Research Associate will work under the direction of Ira A. Lipman Chair in Emerging Technologies and National Security and Director of the Digital and Cyberspace Policy Program.

This position is based in CFRs New York office on a hybrid basis. CFR currently defines hybrid status as working at least three days a week onsite, with Tuesdays and Thursdays considered institutional anchor days where all staff are required to be onsite.

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to)::
  • Researching specific ar eas as requested by the f ellow. Tracking both English and Chinese language news and data sources on technology, innovation, and cybersecurity .
  • Completing writing assignments, including research findings summaries and business writing .
  • Providing administrative support to the f ellow , including answering telep hones, handling correspondence, and respon ding to media requests .
  • Coordinating events, including preparing invitations, making travel arrangements, scheduling, corresponding with speakers and presiders, helping to prepare background papers and materials for distribution, and providing other logistical support.
  • Assisting in m anaging program finances , including preparing budgets and tracking monthly statements, monitoring grant information and writing reports and requests, creating and updating Excel spreadsheets, and preparing vouchers for reimbursement.
  • Assisting the fellow with social media outreach, including publishing a blog, website, video, and/or using social media applications such as X, Google+, etc., as needed .
  • Providing support across departmental lines and for other f ellows, upon request .

Qualifications:
  • BA degree in International Relations or a related field, with high academic credentials and a concentration on Chinese or Digital and Cyberspace studies.
  • Advanced Mandarin Chinese language skills are required , with the ability to conduct research with Chinese language materials . F amiliarity with the Chinese i nternet, bulletin boards, and social networking sites a plus .
  • One year of related administrative and/or internship experience
  • Strong research, proofreading, and editing skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Experience with budget management and/or website maintenance preferred

Pay Range

$55,000 to $58,000 per year

Pay commensurate with experience and education
