Description
Wheeler Power Systems (WPS) Drafter is a responsive and efficient drafter of quality drawings of various types as needed by special projects. This position's primary responsibility will be creation and maintenance of construction models and drawings. The drafter will report to Power Systems Special Projects Manager and will need to communicate frequently and well with a variety of subcontractors, vendors, customers, coworkers and management to ensure drawings meet their needs.
Wheeler Power Systems (WPS) drafter is responsible the creation and maintenance of various drawing types for special projects division. These projects are turnkey power plants, and typically consist of a building, balance-of-plant equipment (MCCs, VFDs, radiators, swamp coolers, switchgear, emission control technology, tanks, pumps, etc.), and a wide-variety of electric power generation typesfrom small diesel- or natural gas standby and emergency backup power generation, to large natural gas engine-driven generators- for municipal and COOP utilities. These projects may also include battery energy storage systems (BESS), uninterruptible power systems (UPS), switchgear and commercial solar projects. Accurate and clear drawings and labels are at the heart of ensuring subcontractors, procurement, and other parties are communicating and coordinating work together efficiently and effectively toward the final deliverable.
Duties & Responsibilities: - Create preliminary design sketches for conceptual analysis.
- Create drawings and designs for construction and manufacturing.
- Create design specifications, documentation, and material lists.
- Create and accurately place points in drawings for Total station.
- Estimate material and production costs for designs.
- Prepare complete documentation packages for engineers.
- Assist in verifying drawings are correct to specifications, codes, and other regulations.
- Developing technical documentation for engineers, managers, subcontractors, owners, and service technicians.
- Accept and fulfill other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: - Proven understanding of and commitment to developing and maintaining a culture of safety.
- Proven successful drawing creation and drafting experience in a technical field-preferably within the electric power generation industry.
- Ability to take conceptual ideas and create formal drawings using their knowledge of design, materials, and fabrication.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to develop creative solutions
- Ability to operate computer-aided design (CAD) software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and manual drafting workstations
- Ability to use Building Information Modeling (BIM) software (e.g. Revit by Autodesk) to accurately place equipment, piping, electrical in building's 3D model
- Ability to use SolidWorks Electrical software (for schematics)
- Ability to manage several projects at a time and prioritize based on direction from project manager
- Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Time management skills to complete error-free work within the required timeframe
- Team player with demonstrated success and competency in working with both internal and external parties to ensure drawings are relevant and useful to intended audience
- Excellent communication skillespecially writing, including:
- The ability to simplify the description of complex tasks and systems to the understanding of a wide audience with varying degrees of knowledge and expertise,
- The skill to provide context to tasks and requests so each person working understands how their piece fits into the greater system.
- The track record and commitment to keep management and fellow team members updated on status, next steps, challenges, proposed solutions of your controls work.
- the discipline to ensure thorough, timely and clear documentation is created, maintained, and shared appropriately.
- Must be willing to work the hours required to meet or exceed goals and objectives.
- Good planning skills, including design execution, resource allocation and contingencies
- Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and signs of maintenance issues
- Minimum four-year bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
