Part-time Legal Services Coordinator to support the Immigrant Legal Defense Program (ILDP). The coordinator will work 27 hours per week.
The Legal Services Coordinator will be supporting the Special Immigrant Juvenile Status Project (SIJS), where they will be assisting immigrant children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected, with their applications before USCIS and the Immigration Court.
This is a hybrid role that requires a minimum of 2 days in person at the JDC office per week and may require 3 to 4 in office days per week on occasion.
Essential Job Functions: NOTE: To the extent possible, reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Perform initial screenings and intakes for SIJS eligible youth and facilitate placements with volunteer attorneys.
- Coordinate and schedule interpretation services for volunteer attorneys.
- Assist JDC staff in developing trainings, materials, samples and templates for volunteer attorneys.
- Support JDC attorneys in representing SIJS eligible youth before the Family, Probate and Immigration Courts.
- Prepare and file forms I-360, I-485, I-765 before USCIS under the supervision of a JDC attorney.
- Prepare motions and other filings for SIJS eligible youth in removal proceedings.
- Coordinate self-help application clinics for immigrant youth filing before USCIS.
- Create and provide materials to immigrant youth to familiarize them with the multi-step process of applying for SIJS.
- Other programmatic work as needed to support the ILDP and JDC.
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent level of experience.
Prerequisite Skills & Requirements: - Oral and written fluency in English and Spanish required. Proficiency in other languages is a plus.
- Ability to work with individuals from diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds in a culturally competent manner.
Specific Skills and Qualifications: - Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), familiarity with Google Suite
