Educational and Experience Requirement Associate degree or sixty hours of college required. No experience required. Library experience would be helpful. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education.
Nature & Purpose of Position This position creates descriptive metadata, transcribes materials, and other tasks that support the digitization, preservation, and accessibility of library's digital collections.
Primary Responsibilities Creates, maintains, and enhances metadata for digital objects. Uploads digital objects to content management systems, such as CONTENTdm and DSpace. Processes digital files with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software. Performs accessibility checks on digital files and creates transcripts, captions, tags, etc. as required for accessibility. Works with faculty and staff in Special Collections, University Archives, and other departments on collaborative digital projects. Contributes to revisions in workflow documentation and procedural guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Specifications Normally will be involved in routine contacts with faculty, staff, students, and other patrons and some important contacts with other universities up to or more than 50% of the time. Therefore, ability to deal effectively in contacts with people is necessary. Working conditions are normally in a semi-private or general working area of the library with little or no disagreeable conditions.
Knowledge/Skills : Experience using Microsoft Office, Microsoft 365, and Adobe software programs, such as Excel, Teams, Acrobat, and Photoshop. Ability to manage multiple on-going tasks and be self-motivated. Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, analytical skills, and an ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.
Preferred: Familiarity with metadata standards relevant to digital preservation and content description such as Dublin Core and DACS, and use of controlled vocabularies.
Work schedules are generally 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, work schedules may vary according to library needs.
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
