Summary


The Prosecuting Attorney's Office for Valley County is looking for a part-time Legal Assistant to provide administrative support for all legal staff within the office. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in legal matters.

This is a part-time, non-benefitted position, limited to 19½ hours per week.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
The Legal Assistant provides administrative services which serve the general public in all civil and criminal proceedings handled by the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, and performs duties related to the successful performance of those areas of law. The incumbent opens, prepares, organizes, maintains, and monitors the ongoing status of legal case files. Other duties include receiving, verifying, organizing, and sorting critical and non-critical paperwork and documents; entering and maintaining information, documents, and records into various files; writing routine correspondence, memos, and office documents; and answering telephone calls, greeting visitors, and delivering messages to staff.

Typical Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, certification as a legal secretary, and experience in providing legal administrative support. Excellent writing skills are essential as the success of an incumbent in this position is dependent upon their writing abilities. Any knowledge of legal, court, and judicial procedures, rules, terminology, methods, documents, practices, and objectives is also desired. Additionally, good writing and verbal communication skills, knowledge of standard office equipment - including computers and office software packages, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects is required.
