Job Title HVAC and Maintenance Technician
JOB GOAL: Maintain daily HVAC operations, district equipment, and facilities suitable for a positive learning environment for students, staff, and patrons.
PERFORMANCE, Duties AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Troubleshoot and repair HVAC related problems within skill/ability.
- Diagnoses and repair of circulating pumps, associated mechanical systems and equipment, air controls and heat exchangers.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment such as electrical drive motors, laundry, kitchen and air conditioning equipment. Repair drive belts, sprockets, shafts and bearing to ensure proper operation.
- Perform maintenance, cleaning, and repair of electrical, mechanical and structural systems of building and utility distribution (clocks, fire alarms, fans, heating units, etc.)
- Repair windows, doors, screens, floors, floor coverings and painted surfaces.
- Install, maintain and repair electrical connections, switches, circuits, electrical equipment, thermostats and valves.
- Perform duties related to carpentry, plastering, mechanical or electrical work, refrigeration maintenance and machinist's trades as required, to maintain district facilities.
- Repair furniture as needed district wide, including instructional equipment repair (chalk board, maps, carts, locks, etc.).
- Drive truck as required; load and unload materials and supplies.
- Operate hand & power tools in a skilled manner, fabricate materials and equipment in workshops and other workshop sites.
- Perform roof repairs as required (shingles, gutters, downspouts, etc.).
- Perform general labor maintenance construction work on buildings, fixtures, equipment, walks and driveways, repair sanitary storm drains & sewers, repair parking lots and sidewalks.
- Open doors daily; district wide. Report needed repairs as observed.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of HVAC principles and processes.
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Skill in communicating effectively, orally and in writing.
- Skill in performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff to achieve a safe and comfortable work environment and meet the goals and objectives of the District
- Ability to comply with applicable standards, policies, or procedures
- Ability to manage work time and tasks efficiently.
- Ability to multi-task and effectively work under pressure.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Ability to provide effective customer service.
- Ability to relate to students, staff, parents, and others.
PHYSICAL CONDITIONS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Able to lift up to fifty pounds (50 lb.)
- Able to sit, walk, stoop and stand
- Able to climb to the height of fifteen (15) feet
- Able to perform physical labor for a full shift
- Experiences frequent interruptions.
- Required to meet inflexible deadlines
- Requires concentration to details
QUALIFICATIONS: - High school diploma or equivalent; Or, any combination of targeted job-related education and experience which provides the applicant with the requisite knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the work and that meets applicable requirements of the position may be considered.
REQUIRED LICENSES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May be required to have a valid State of Washington Driver's license.
- Possess, maintain, or have held a Class IV Boiler License or HVAC certification, and any other special endorsements as may be required by the employer (or willingness to obtain within 6 months).
- Work Skills Assessments: Achieve minimum acceptable levels/scores in reading, writing, and math
REPORT TO: Director of Facilities
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work Year 260 days per year (includes paid holidays)
Hours 8.5 hours paid per day including half-hour unpaid duty free lunch, Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm (hours subject to change based on operational needs)
Salary 2024-25 PSE Salary Schedule A
Boiler & Maiuntenance Tech $30.88 - $33.60* (*depending on experience)
