Job Summary : Duties are not limited to but do include the following.

The Fiber Splicer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic communication lines and systems. This role includes both aerial and underground fiber splicing, as well as troubleshooting and documenting fiber network installations and repairs. The Fiber Splicer must be able to work in all weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders, gaffing telephone poles, and pulling trailers. Additional duties may be assigned to support the crew as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Perform fiber optic splicing, including fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and termination of fiber optic cables.

· Interpret and work from fiber splicing documents, network maps, and engineering specifications.

· Conduct testing using OTDRs, power meters, and other fiber testing equipment to ensure proper splicing and connectivity.

· Install, maintain, and repair fiber optic infrastructure, including aerial and underground installations.

· Climb ladders, gaff telephone poles, and work in confined spaces to complete fiber splicing and maintenance tasks.

· Pull, terminate, and secure fiber optic cables in accordance with industry standards.

· Document installation and repair work, ensuring accurate records and reports.

· Assist in troubleshooting fiber optic networks and identifying sources of signal loss or damage.

· Back up and maneuver trailers as needed for transporting equipment and materials.

· Work in varying weather conditions and environments, including urban, rural, and construction sites.

· Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring compliance with company and industry standards.

· Deploy and remove traffic control devices when working on roadways to maintain a safe work environment.

· Collaborate with team members to complete projects efficiently and accurately.

· Perform additional duties as assigned to support the crew and operations.

Required Skills and Abilities:

· Strong understanding of fiber optic splicing techniques and best practices.

· Ability to read and interpret splicing diagrams, fiber network maps, and engineering designs.

· Proficiency in using fiber testing equipment such as OTDRs, power meters, and visual fault locators.

· Experience working with aerial and underground fiber installations.

· Ability to climb ladders, gaff telephone poles, and perform physically demanding tasks.

· Capable of safely pulling and backing up a trailer.

· Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards related to fiber optic installation and maintenance.

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Clean Driving Record

· Previous experience in fiber splicing, telecommunications, or a related field preferred.

· Knowledge of electrical codes and fiber optic standards is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

· Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and in all weather conditions.

· Must have the stamina to work long hours and perform physically demanding tasks.

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18 - $30 per hour, DOE
