POSITION OVERVIEW
The Executive Director has overall responsibility for the fundraising required.
The Executive Director will live out MCDCs Mission, Vision, and Core Values and ensure the security, integrity, and confidentiality of MCDC data and information. Planning, financial management, marketing and community relations are also priorities for the Executive Director, subject to Board of Director oversight. This position will work closely with the Board of Directors to develop and implement the strategic plan; establish policies, procedures, and goals; provide leadership and support for the staff, committee members and volunteers.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Planning
? Develop and implement strategic planning for long-range visioning and corporate structure in cooperation with the Board of Directors, Staff, and Consultants.
Finance, Budget, Fundraising
? Responsible for coordination of financial statement audit.
? Responsible for the Annual Budgeting Process.
? Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with diverse supporters and partners, including individuals, corporations, foundations, other nonprofit organizations, government agencies and local and regional educational institutions.
? Plan annual fundraising performance goals based on MCDCs needs determined by the Board of Directors.
? Drive sustainable growth and revenue while remaining fiscally responsible, with a strong focus on donor relations.
? Develop and maintain Donor and Prospect relationships and communication plans.
? Participate in fundraising to seek philanthropic support ensuring that donors experience a high-quality relationship with the organization.
? Maximize profitability of earned revenue sources including admissions, memberships, gift shop, classes, field trips, Discovery On The Go!, special events, and venue rentals.
? Research grants and awards to finance MCDC operations, capital improvements, programs, and exhibits.
Marketing
? Public Relations/Face and voice of the museum.
? Presentations to local and area service clubs, PTAs, etc.
Operations
? Overall management of MCDC.
? Oversee management of museum operations while leading, empowering, motivating and mentoring team members by providing consistent direction, communication, organizational alignment, professional development/training, and visioning.
? Oversee development and maintenance of Safety Plans by collaborating with Facilities Maintenance Coordinator (Fire, Weather, Emergency, Lost Child, Intruder, MSDS, etc.).
? Oversee maintenance in conjunction with Facilities Maintenance Coordinator to maintain building.
Personnel
? Responsible for development and maintenance of policies and procedures manuals, including personnel policies with management team.
? Final authority for hiring and termination of employees, within budget limitations.
? Final authority as to disciplinary action of employees.
? Oversee maintenance of personnel files.
? Ensure annual performance reviews are completed by October 31 of each year.
Reporting & Record Keeping
? Ensure filing of required Government Reports WSI, employment, non-profit, grants, etc.
? Ensure security, integrity and confidentiality of data.
? Hold and conduct monthly board meetings and maintain communications with Board of Directors.
? Ensure Maintenance and Retention of corporate records (i.e. Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Minutes of Board of Directors, Financials, Annual Reports, 501(c)(3) Approval, EIN, 990, Annual Audits, Etc.)
Other Tasks
? Maintain current required auto insurance for assigned transportation duties.
? Excellent oral/written communication skills.
? Ability to meet deadlines.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
o Bachelors degree or applicable work experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS:
o Five (5) years of leadership experience preferred.
o Non-profit experience preferred.
o Fundraising and grant writing experience preferred.
o Strong office and computer knowledge/skills required.
o Strong detail orientation and writing skills preferred.
o Human resource experience preferred.
o Excellent interpersonal communication skills required and the ability to work with various personalities.
o Strong project management skills required with the ability to manage concurrent projects.
o Strong customer service orientation.
o Demonstrated drive for excellence, integrity, and confidentiality.
o Strong financial, budgeting, and analytical skills required.
o Demonstrates passion for children and educational development.
