About Powder Haven: We are a private membership community dedicated to offering exceptional outdoor experiences and fostering a strong connection with nature. Our community values sustainability, inclusivity, and a passion for outdoor pursuits, providing members and their guests with unique and memorable recreational activities year-round.
Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and innovative Director of Outdoor Pursuits to lead our outdoor sports and recreation program. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in developing and managing comprehensive outdoor programming, with a strong focus on safety, quality, and member satisfaction. Reporting to the Head of Membership Experience, the Director will design and implement a wide range of educational clinics, recreational experiences, and adventure travel opportunities that cater to the diverse needs of our members and their guests.
Key Responsibilities: - Program Development:
- Develop and curate a year-round program of outdoor sports, recreational, and educational activities tailored to the needs of our members.
- Implement a series of lessons and developmental clinics to enhance members' skills and enjoyment across different age groups and skill levels.
- Create seasonal menus of recreational experiences for members and their guests.
- Coordination and Logistics:
- Manage all logistics, including equipment needs, scheduling, transportation, and necessary amenities for activities and events.
- Coordinate with qualified instructors, vendors, and guides to ensure a high standard of instruction and member experience.
- Negotiate contracts with external vendors and service providers to secure the best resources and experiences for our community.
- Member Engagement:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for member inquiries related to outdoor pursuits, providing detailed information and expectations.
- Communicate regularly with members about upcoming activities, events, and condition-based opportunities such as powder days or paragliding.
- Collect and analyze feedback to continuously improve the member experience.
- Safety and Risk Management:
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to ensure all activities are conducted safely and comply with relevant regulations.
- Train instructors and guides to maintain high safety and quality standards.
- Ensure all activities have appropriate insurance coverage and adhere to safety protocols.
- Collaboration and Relationship Management:
- Collaborate with local vendors to offer unique off-mountain experiences and maintain strong relationships with local businesses.
- Work closely with sales and marketing teams to create promotional strategies that highlight the unique offerings of Powder Mountain.
- Budget and Resource Management:
- Develop and manage budgets for all outdoor recreational activities and events, ensuring cost-effectiveness and resource efficiency.
- Implement sustainable practices and eco-friendly initiatives to align with the community's values.
- Innovation and Industry Leadership:
- Stay informed on industry trends and provide ongoing education for guides and instructors.
- Utilize technology, such as booking systems and mobile apps, to enhance the member experience.
- Integrate health and wellness programs into the outdoor pursuits offerings, including yoga, meditation, and fitness classes.
- Accessibility and Inclusivity:
- Ensure all activities are accessible and inclusive for members of all abilities, including adaptive sports programming.
- Design personalized recreational experiences based on member preferences and special requests.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Recreation Management, Sports Science, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred.
- At least 8-10 years of experience in outdoor recreation or sports management, with a proven track record of developing and leading successful programs.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- A commitment to safety, sustainability, and providing high-quality experiences.
- A genuine passion for outdoor pursuits and a dedication to fostering a vibrant community.
- Wilderness First Responder Certification - preferred
- CPR Certification - required
