What You'll Do

The Deputy Director of Alumni Programs will lead the Roosevelt Network's work with young professionals and alumni. They will manage a small team of people, help scale our programs, and connect the Network community with the Roosevelt Society initiative.

The Roosevelt Network develops and supports undergraduate college students and early career professionals-in particular, those who hold identities historically denied political power-to be the next generation of leaders in the progressive policy ecosystem. We are creating a pipeline of new leaders who champion ideas that rebalance power in our economy and democracy. As a program of the Roosevelt Institute stewarding the legacy of Eleanor and Franklin Roosevelt into the 21st century, we believe that we can rewrite the rules by changing who writes them.

Co-lead the day-to-day of the Roosevelt Network alongside the Deputy Director of Student Programs:

  • Help steward the tone, culture, norms, and systems for the team
  • Actively engage and contribute to our management culture, processes, and system and support Network strategic decision-making and strategy implementation
  • Represent the Network to its constituency groups and external partners: alumni, Roosevelt In Washington host organizations, etc.
  • Ensure alignment between student-facing and young professionals and alumni-facing programs
  • Play a leading role in department-wide events such as the annual Hyde Park gathering
Lead the program area by building and managing a small team:
  • Oversee the creation, execution, and evaluation of programs that serve young professionals
  • In service of network-weaving, build and maintain relationships across the Network's young professionals and alumni community.
  • Conduct weekly 1:1 check-ins and provide day-to-day supervision and guidance to direct report(s) and conduct direct report(s)'s annual review, identifying development opportunities including strengths and areas for growth
  • Ensure that direct report(s) have all the tools, systems, and processes in place for success across programs and functions
  • Support or lead hiring processes for Network staff roles and steward team professional development
Connect alumni programs with Roosevelt Society initiatives:
  • Help maintain an accurate database of alumni and young professionals
  • Play a role in planning and executing Roosevelt Society events
  • Ensure the appropriate training opportunities, programs, and events under the Roosevelt Society banner are shared with alumni and young professionals; recruit participation from the community
  • Help maintain Roosevelt as a moral and political home for young professionals and alumni of all generations
Pilot a new fellowship that brings together a diverse cohort of leaders in industries such as journalism, organizing, the arts, and other sectors:
  • Alongside key staff and stakeholders, build recruitment and selection processes for the pilot cohort
  • Develop and run bi-monthly programming for the fellows
  • Assist fellows with the planning of the annual Reimagine America convening and help run the event alongside RI staff and fellows
  • Assist fellows with the production of 1-2 deliverables (written piece, podcast, etc.)

The salary range for this role is $92,000-$110,000 annually. The Roosevelt Institute offers excellent benefits that include 100 percent paid medical, dental, and vision for employees and 80 percent paid for dependents; life insurance; vacation; personal and sick time; paid parental leave; professional development; healthcare, dependent care, and commuter FSA; and a 403(b) retirement plan with up to 4 percent contribution.
