This hourly role is an integral part of the Conservation and Science teams.In this role, you will report to the Animal Behavior Science Manager.What You Will DoConduct various aspects of scientific monitoring with a primary focus on collecting animal behavior data via in person observations and video recordings to optimize animal well-beingCollect, process and visualize data; produces reports or presentations with visual appeal and clarity for partners; reviews videos; conducts literature searches; and maintains databases and archival toolsProvide support for meetings, classes, and workshops and supplies findings for staff seminars, team meetings, scientific journals, conference presentations, popular publications, and social mediaDevelop and update standard operating guidelines, and provides technical support, organization and maintenance for equipment and safe work spaces, and ensuring hazardous waste complianceOrder and distribute supplies, maintains inventory and assists with quality assuranceProvide flexibility across Science Operations and Conservation teams and other science and conservation working groups to support operational and strategic goalsSupport communication efforts, helps creates original content and interactive, interpretive experiences, and engages regularly with Guests and other audiences to share our storiesSupport external partnerships to advance conservation, research, and public engagementRequired Qualifications & SkillsEducation, professional interest and enthusiasm for animal behavior and animal welfareExperience working in zoos, aquariums and/or wildlifeDemonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly ExcelData processing, graphing, and presentation experienceDemonstrated written and verbal communication skills for formal and informal audiencesExperience with behavioral data collection and a basic understanding of animal behavior and animal welfare science, including current trends in research and methodological approachesFull availability with work schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts, including possible travelAbility to support multiple projects and with attention to detail and ability to problem solveProven ability to work independently, as well as within a dynamic team environment, both in an office or field environmentAbility to work outdoors in all types of weather and in view of the public.
