Job Description

The Communications Specialist is responsible for creating, managing, and delivering internal and external communications that align with the organization’s goals, values, and brand identity. This role requires strong written and verbal communication skills, creativity, and a strategic approach to ensure effective messaging across various platforms. The Communications Specialist will work closely with leadership, marketing team and other departments to ensure clear, concise, and consistent communication both internally and externally.

Essential Tasks

Internal Communications:

  • Create strategy and develop platforms/vehicles to effectively communicate company strategies, objectives, initiatives, organizational change, meetings/events, etc. to internal and select external audiences.
  • Write, edit, and proofread communication materials, including employee newsletters, internal announcements, customer/partner messages, press releases, articles, and social media/blog posts. Ensure consistent messaging across platforms and content.
  • Develop and oversee communications calendar to ensure appropriate frequency, cadence, audience targeting/relevance, tone, vehicle/platform, etc.
  • Partner with subject matter experts to draft clear, concise messaging that builds understanding and engagement.
  • Develop and manage company intranet.
  • Support planning, execution, and content for annual kickoff event, including event management, video and AV production, presentation support and event logistics.

External Communications:

  • Collaborate with marketing to support the company’s social media presence (primarily LinkedIn and Facebook), including content creation, posting and engagement.
  • Collaborate with marketing and design teams to create visually appealing and effective external communication materials.
  • Plan, organize and support corporate communication events and public appearances.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with media contacts, journalists, and influencers.
  • Manage press conferences, media briefings and other public relations events.
  • Monitor and analyze media coverage, providing regular insights and recommendations for improvement.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Marketing required.

Professional Experience

  • 2+ years of corporate communications or related experience, preferably with focus on employee/internal communications.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, with attention to clarity, detail, and accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of corporate communication principles, employee engagement, change management and media relations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships. Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications including SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc. Working knowledge of Constant Contact, website content management systems, video production, graphic design and social media is a plus.
  • Ability to learn new technology platforms quickly.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 40lbs, sitting for the majority of the time with standing, twisting and bending as required in the office environment.

Environmental / Physical Conditions

Work is conducted in an office environment and at external meeting/conference venues.
