**Description**

As driver at Steel Technologies, you play a key role in customer satisfaction, by delivering product to our customer in a timely, safe and efficient manner.

**The regular hours for this position are Mon - Fri from 5:00am to 3:00pm - overtime may be necessary when production demands it**

**How youll contribute to our company:**

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:**

1. Operates a truck with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver steel products

2. Performs required daily vehicle inspections and monthly checklist to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order

3. Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles

4. Maneuvers trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking that vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned

5. Secures cargo for transport using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers

6. Inspects securement devices (chains, straps, tie-downs) for defects

7. Inspects material placed on truck for defects before and after trips

8. Maintains inspection paperwork and documentation relating to accidents or material defects

9. Follows a pre-determined schedule of pickup and delivery

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:**

* Ability to operate a tractor trailer for up to ten consecutive hours

* Ability to operate a clutch pedal

* Knowledge of and ability to comply with all D.O.T and FMCSR requirements as well as applicable state laws

* Knowledge of and ability to comply with safety rules and requirements

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**

* Ability to routinely twist, bend, stoop, and squat

* Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time

* Ability to repetitively reach and grasp

* Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:**

A current Class A CDL license with a satisfactory motor vehicle record is required. A minimum of two years steel hauling experience is preferred but may be substituted with equivalent experience and training when competency in the position is demonstrated.

**WORKING CONDITIONS:**

This work is performed in a manufacturing setting with moderate to high levels of noise due to machinery and equipment processes. The temperature of the facility will vary based on the outside weather conditions. This position requires the use of personal protective equipment for safety compliance and may include overtime as deemed necessary by management.
