Job Description

We are a small but growing construction company dedicated to providing high-quality services to our clients. We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry and will be responsible for managing our financial records, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and handling payroll operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Record Keeping:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including accounts payable and receivable, general ledger entries, and reconciliation of bank statements.
    • Track and manage expenses, invoices, and receipts.
  2. Payroll Management:
    • Process weekly payroll for all employees, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
    • Calculate and file payroll taxes, including federal, state, and local taxes.
    • Manage employee benefits deductions and contributions.
  3. State Sales Tax Filings:
    • Prepare and file state sales tax returns on a monthly or quarterly basis as required.
    • Ensure all sales tax obligations are met on time and accurately.
  4. IRS Filings:
    • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual IRS filings, including Form 941, Form 1099, and other necessary tax forms.
    • Assist in the preparation of annual tax returns in collaboration with external accountants.
  5. Compliance:
    • Ensure the company remains compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations, including employment laws and tax requirements.
    • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and accounting practices affecting the construction industry.
  6. Financial Reporting:
    • Generate weekly, monthly, and annual financial reports to provide insights into the company's financial health.
    • Assist management in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  7. Other Duties:
    • Handle administrative tasks related to bookkeeping, such as document management and correspondence with vendors and clients.
    • Provide support during audits and financial reviews.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a bookkeeper, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero) and MS Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes and tax regulations.
  • Knowledge of state sales tax requirements and IRS filings for small businesses.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with team members.

Education:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (preferred).
  • Certification as a Bookkeeper (e.g., CPB, CB) is a plus.
