Duties include: + Following established field protocols to conduct vegetation sampling and field data collection on new and existing monitoring sites. Field data will be used by resource specialists and land managers to inform decisions regarding open space management and other resource management issues of the area. + Assists with community-based programs like the Neighborhood Chipping Program, Weed Warriors, Bee Watch, and other community science opportunities. + This position will work 40 hours a week for up to 4 months. + This position is open to all persons aged 19 and older. + This position is designated as At-Will. Essential Functions Assists with restoration planting, rare plant monitoring, wildland seed collection, picking up trash and disposing of debris. Updates GIS layers for landscape treatments and maintains project records. Performs general maintenance and monitors on previous restoration projects throughout the open space reserve system. Identifies tools, materials, and equipment needed to safely complete tasks. 10% Maintains invasive species removal and management on open space reserves. Provides independent oversight and guidance of volunteer and service-learning groups helping the Weed Warrior Program. 10% Fieldwork collecting survey data including plants, ground cover, soil, invasive species, etc. Technician will assist with data entry and management. 70% Assists with oversight for multiple wildfire mitigation projects like heavy equipment operations, mowing, maintaining Firewise landscaping demonstration sites, and working with neighborhood associations and homeowners' associations. Installs interpretative signs, piles woody debris, sawyer work, provides basic equipment maintenance and assigned vehicles, forestry equipment and power tools.10% Performs other duties as assigned.
