ABOUT US : The Wickford Art Association (WAA) is located at 36 Beach Street, North Kingstown RI. WAA hosts monthly exhibits, as well as lectures, demonstrations and art classes. Our gallery space is open to the public as well as to its artist - members. Since 1962, the Wickford Art Association has produced the Wickford Art Festival, which has ranked top 10 in the country and No. 1 in New England for best art festival. It hosts up to 300 fine artists from around the world. As the promoter of the arts, Wickford Art Association awards annual scholarships to high school seniors around the state. To date thousands have been dispersed to these deserving emerging artists.

OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION : The WAA Arts Education Coordinator will work under the general direction of the Executive Director. The Arts Education Coordinator is responsible for the development and operational management of Arts Education Programming at the Wickford Art Association. The Arts Education Coordinator will also be responsible for the supervision and oversight of volunteers and art education contractors relating to the Wickford Art Association education programs. In addition, the Arts Education Coordinator will assist with the scheduling and implementation of any community programming, events, or workshops that are educational-in-nature.

The goal being to develop and grow the strength of its offerings. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of the arts community in Rhode Island; shall possess strong organizational skills; Will enjoy working independently, as well as part of a team. Will have a passion for visual arts and a clear understanding of the variety of media that shall be offered as classes. The candidate shall be able to manage time well and follow through with projects. PROGRAM PLANNING:

  • Oversees and continually assesses the services/activities of the WAA Arts Education Program.
  • Coordinates, schedules and implements the Arts Education Programs, classes, workshops and events in a timely manner. 20- 25 class offerings will be created 3 times a year, January – April, May – August and September – December.
  • Recruits, interviews, selects, orientates, supervises, and evaluates contracted instructors. Meets with new instructors for an orientation prior to the start of his/her class. Sends class lists to instructors prior to the start of their classes and communicates any information instructors need to know about their upcoming class. Visits classes when a new session begins and drops in while classes are in-session.
  • Submit Instructor payment invoices to the Executive Director following the completion of class. Collect all required tax forms from instructors.
  • Create and develop the Arts Education Program based on the course proposals submitted by the instructors. Write and/or edit the class descriptions that have been submitted. Arrange calendar so that class times do not overlap in the gallery and do not conflict with planned gallery events. Participate in the development of the class and course descriptions for Arts Education Program Class Catalog and promotional materials.
  • Interview and select instructors for the implementation of various arts education classes, and write and/or edit class descriptions and outlines.

PROMOTION OF CLASSES:

  • Assist the marketing team in generating publicity, develop and promote marketing materials; create and facilitate materials for programming. This includes Constant Contact email-blasted newsletter, website postings on WordPress, working with a graphic designer on creating content for the print version of class schedule, and prompting classes and instructors through Facebook and Instagram postings. Promote classes on the entry board at the gallery. Attend Gallery Openings and answer questions about class offerings.

SUPPORT OF ART INSTRUCTORS:

  • Visit classes, take photographs of students’ art and share on social media sites. Coordinates class and workshop set up with Instructors and Gallery Staff and Assist Instructors as needed.

PROGRAM MANAGEMENT :

  • Record all class registrations on Google worksheets. Create and maintain a shared electronic database of all classes, students, payment records, refunds, contact information, etc.
  • Confirm registrations with students prior to the start of the class he/she has registered for. Send supply lists and relate any other information that pertains to the class in a timely fashion. Communicate with students regarding any challenges that may arise.
  • Perform fiscal management activities related to the Arts Education Program.
  • Provide transactions invoicing to the Executive Director for processing.
  • Provide monthly reports regarding classes and events for the monthly Board Meetings to be delivered to the Executive Director prior to the monthly board meetings.
